Apple ecosystem is one of the most foolproof ways to keep yourself in the loop with all the latest launches. When it comes to accessories, Apple Pencil is no doubt one of the leading products released by Apple to date.

However, compatibility issues are quite prevalent when it comes to the Apple Pencil. If you think that you’d be able to pair the product with any Apple device, including your iPhone, you are mistaken. Long story short, Apple Pencil isn’t compatible with any iOS device and that includes the ones running on iOS 16.

This article will explore all the details you need to know about Apple Pencil and its compatibility with iOS 16 devices.

Is Apple Pencil compatible with iOS devices?

If you are new to using Apple products and you have bought the latest generation Apple Pencil thinking it’d be compatible with your iOS device, you have already set yourself up for disappointment.

The latest and even the older Apple Pencils aren’t meant for your iPhones or any iOS-running device for that matter. Apple Pencils are exclusively created for your iPads.

The 2nd Gen. Apple Pencil is compatible with 6th-generation iPad mini, 4th-generation iPad Air, 3rd-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and later, and 1st-generation 11-inch iPad Pro and above models.

The older or first gen. Apple Pencil is compatible with 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th-generation iPad models and a few of the newer iPads in the market. This means that if you bought the Apple Pencil for your iOS device, it won’t pair and work as normal. This is mainly due to hardware compatibility issues.

At this point, there is no information on what the future holds in terms of compatibility with the iPhones and Apple Pencils. However, with the kind of popularity that the Apple ecosystem garners, things can change in the future.

Can I use any other Smart Pencils for iOS 16 devices?

At present, there are no compatible pencils that you can use with your iPhone to take notes and use for scribbling.

If you are an avid note-taker, especially on digital devices, we’d recommend you look into the other Android devices and tablets, which offer a lot more diversity and flexibility of use.

For the last time and clarification, Apple Pencil doesn’t work with iOS 16 devices. So, if you are considering making a purchase, we’d recommend you refrain and instead buy an iPad for your Apple Pencil.
