Over the last two years, Apple changed a lot and added many new features on iOS 15 and iOS 16 to fully customize the lock and home screen. Of course, we loved the new lock screen customization feature of iOS 16, but the user can also beautifully design the home screen with custom app icons. Since many users are unaware of this procedure, here we will show you how to change app icons on iOS 16.
If you have already created the aesthetic lock screen on iOS 16 with widgets, a colorful clock, and depth effect wallpaper, I guess now it’s time to design the custom app icons to match the style of the lock screen. Apple has made it possible to change the color of apps on iOS 16 and replace the default icons. Without further ado, let’s check out the guide.
How to Change App Icons on iOS 16
Note: Make sure you have downloaded or designed the app icons and saved them into the Photos app to apply as app icons directly and replace them with the default app icons on iPhone.
- Open the Shortcut app.
- Next, tap on the Plus icon at the top right corner.
- Tap on Add Action and search for Open App.
- Tap on Open App and select the App.
- Tap on the three dots at the top right corner.
- Tap on Add To Home Screen. Now tap on App Icon under HOME SCREEN NAME AND ICON.
- Tap on Choose Photo.
- Select the custom app icon image.
- Give the App Name and tap on Add.
- Then, tap on Done.
After tapping on Done in the upper right corner, you will have the newly designed app icons on your device’s home screen. However, when you tap on the custom-made icon to launch the App, it will take seconds to redirect to the original App since we have used the Shortcut app.
Also, you should know that when you set custom app icons on iOS 16 by replacing the original App, you will not see the notification badges on the App.
Can I change the app icon on my iPhone without shortcuts?
There is no way to change the app icon on iPhone without a shortcut app on iOS 16.
