How to Change App Icons on iOS 16

Note: Make sure you have downloaded or designed the app icons and saved them into the Photos app to apply as app icons directly and replace them with the default app icons on iPhone. 

  1. Open the Shortcut app. 
  2. Next, tap on the Plus icon at the top right corner.
  3. Tap on Add Action and search for Open App.
  4. Tap on Open App and select the App. 
  5. Tap on the three dots at the top right corner.
  6. Tap on Add To Home Screen. Now tap on App Icon under HOME SCREEN NAME AND ICON.
  7. Tap on Choose Photo.
  8. Select the custom app icon image. 
  9. Give the App Name and tap on Add.
  10. Then, tap on Done. 

After tapping on Done in the upper right corner, you will have the newly designed app icons on your device’s home screen. However, when you tap on the custom-made icon to launch the App, it will take seconds to redirect to the original App since we have used the Shortcut app. 

Also, you should know that when you set custom app icons on iOS 16 by replacing the original App, you will not see the notification badges on the App. 

Can I change the app icon on my iPhone without shortcuts?

There is no way to change the app icon on iPhone without a shortcut app on iOS 16.
