Apple has officially confirmed when you can pre-order the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the window opens sooner than many expected. If you want one on launch day, here is everything you need to have ready before that date arrives.

When pre-orders go live

Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max open on Saturday, September 12, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time / 8 a.m. Eastern Time. The phones will then ship and hit store shelves on Friday, September 18.

That is a six-day gap between pre-order and release, which follows Apple’s typical rhythm. If you place your order in the first few minutes after 5 a.m. PT, you stand the best chance of getting the phone delivered on launch day. Wait even a few hours and delivery estimates tend to slip by a week or more, especially for the Pro Max.

Where it will be available first

The iPhone 18 Pro Max launches in a sizeable first wave of countries on September 18, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and others.

If your country is not on that list, a second wave of roughly 20 additional markets follows one week later on Friday, September 25.

What else is dropping that week

Apple also confirmed that iOS 27 will roll out on Monday, September 14, two days after pre-orders open and four days before the phones ship. That means existing iPhone users will be able to update to the new software before the 18 Pro Max even arrives in anyone’s hands. It also gives buyers a chance to see the new operating system in action on their current device before committing to an upgrade.

How to pre-order without the headache

A few things worth doing before September 12 arrives:

  • Set up Apple Pay or have your payment details saved in the Apple Store app. Checking out through the app is consistently faster than going through a browser.
  • Know your trade-in value ahead of time. Apple’s trade-in estimator is available now, and locking in a quote before launch day saves you time during checkout.
  • Decide on storage and color early. Pro Max models in higher storage tiers and popular colors tend to sell out fastest. Going in undecided costs you minutes you may not have.
  • Download the Apple Store app if you have not already. It tends to handle launch-day traffic better than the website.

Carrier pre-orders through AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and others typically go live at the same time as Apple’s own store, and they often carry their own trade-in and financing deals worth comparing before you commit.

Is it worth pre-ordering this year

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is shaping up to be one of Apple’s more significant hardware updates in recent years, arriving alongside iOS 27 and new features that Apple detailed at its September event. Demand for the Pro Max is historically the highest of any iPhone model, and supply in the first few weeks rarely keeps pace with it.

If you have already decided you want one, pre-ordering on September 12 the moment the store opens is simply the most reliable path to having it in your hands on the 18th. Waiting for walk-in availability at an Apple Store or retail partner in those first few weeks is a gamble that rarely pays off.

Mark September 12 on your calendar, set an alarm for 4:50 a.m. Pacific Time, and have the Apple Store app open and ready.
