How does StandBy work on iOS 17?

mm

iOS 17 was just released at the WWDC event and is the most recent version of Apple’s iPhone operating system. It has several new features and enhancements. One of them is StandBy mode, which allows you to utilise your iPhone as a little smart display while charging and set horizontally. Yes, this is a new feature, and many of you may be unfamiliar with how to utilise it. But don’t worry, I’m here to walk you through how standby word works on iOS 17 and how you can utilise it. Let’s get started!

What Is StandBy Mode?

StandBy mode is a new Lock Screen feature in iOS 17 that appears when an iPhone is charging and on its side (horizontally). It transforms the iPhone screen into a full-screen experience that displays the clock, photographs, widgets, alerts, and other information in the style of a digital frame. You may transition between screens by swiping left or right, such as Widgets, Photo, and Clock. You may also change the clock design or the widgets on the screen by swiping up or down. You may customise the position and kind of a widget from compatible apps by tapping and holding it.

StandBy mode is intended to make your iPhone useful when it is inactive by displaying important information. It may be used on your bedroom table, kitchen counter, home office desk, or wherever else you need to see your iPhone screen from a distance. You may also utilise MagSafe chargers or docks to automatically engage StandBy mode and remember various settings for different locations.

How to Use StandBy Mode?

To use StandBy mode, you must have an iPhone running the most recent version of iOS 17, as well as a regular Apple ID (not a Managed Apple ID). You must also install the iCloud for Windows programme from the Microsoft Store on your Windows PC and sign in with the same Apple ID that you used to register your iPhone. You will be able to sync your data and use iCloud capabilities from your Windows PC as a result of this.

  1. To activate StandBy mode, connect your iPhone to a charger (wired or wireless) and turn it sideways.
  2. You will see the StandBy screen with a clock and a photo album.
  3. You can swipe left or right to switch between different screens, such as Widgets, Photo, and Clock.
  4. You can swipe up or down to change the clock style or the widgets on the screen.
  5. You can tap and hold a widget to customize its position and type from supported apps.
  6. You can also access StandBy mode from your web browser by going to the iCloud website and signing in with your Apple ID.
  7. You will see the same StandBy screen as on your iPhone, and you can swipe left or right to switch between different screens.

Smart stacks can also be used to combine widgets together and see important information at the proper time. For example, if you have an imminent meeting, StandBy mode will display your daily calendar, or the score of a football game if you follow a team. You can also utilise Live Activities to receive urgent notifications and alerts for items that are important to you, such as food delivery or breaking news.

Until next time, with another topic. Till then, Toodles.
