Netflix has been with us for a few years now, but unbelievably, there’s no Netflix app for Mac. Yep, you heard that right. Fans of Netflix who use Macs will need to watch their favorite series using a different web browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, or Safari.
Unfortunately, some websites will try to trick you into downloading a fake version of Netflix for Mac by stating that it is compatible with your operating system. Don’t believe them! Streaming Netflix Using AirPlay 2 From Your iPhone or iPad
If you’re part of an Apple family with a lot of iOS devices, or just own a lot of Apple products around your home you might have fallen in love with how well connected each device is. Sharing media across them is a breeze thanks to Apple’s AirPlay 2 feature. It’s like a digital express lane, letting you send stuff wirelessly from your Mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, or HomePod right over to another Apple device.
One excellent feature about AirPlay 2 is that it’s already part of your devices, built in before you even open and activate your device! Whether you have an iPhone, Mac or iPad, it’s part of the package. So, Mac users, you don’t need any extra tech gear to stream Netflix on your device. Plus, you can still fiddle around on your iOS device while Netflix is running on your Mac. It’s a win-win!
Use AirPlay 2 to stream video or mirror the screen of your iPhone or iPad
With AirPlay, you can easily cast videos or mirror the screen of your iPhone or iPad. It lets you stream or share content from your Apple devices to your Apple TV, AirPlay-friendly smart TV, or Mac. Whether you’re looking to stream a movie, showcase your photo collection, or exactly replicate what’s on your device’s screen, AirPlay’s got you covered.
Stream video from your iPhone or iPad to a TV or Mac
Here’s how to mirror what’s on your iPhone or iPad display:
- Ensure that both the TV device and iOS device are on the same Wi-Fi network. (For TVs with AirPlay support, make sure you’ve set up their smart TV software)
- If you have an iPhone X or newer or an iPad running iOS 12 or later, swipe down from the upper-right corner to reveal the Control Center. Otherwise, swipe up for Control Center instead.
- Tap the screen mirroring button, which looks like two overlapping boxes.
- Select your TV from the list. (If you have multiple AirPlay-compatible devices, consider labeling each one based on the room it’s in.)
- On your iOS device, enter the four-digit code that appears on your TV screen. (By default, you’ll only need to do this once for each device.)
- To disconnect from the TV, follow steps 1 through 3, and then select “Stop Mirroring” from the list.
How to connect your Apple TV to your Netflix account
Once you’ve configured your Apple TV, you’ll want to download the Netflix app by selecting the App Store option from the Apple TV home screen. From there, simply search for Netflix and click Get to start the download and installation.
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation)
To connect your Apple TV to your Netflix account, make sure you are on the home screen and follow the steps below:
- From the main Apple TV menu, select Netflix.
- Select Already A Member? Sign in.
- NOTE: If you’re not yet a member, set up your membership at Netflix.com on the web or mobile browser.
- Enter your Netflix email and password.
- Your device is now connected to your Netflix account.
Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K
To connect your Apple TV to your Netflix account, make sure you are on the home screen and follow the steps below:
- Install the Netflix app
- From the home screen, select the App Store.
- In the App Store, search for Netflix to find the app, then select Get to start installation.
- After installation, the Netflix app will appear on the home screen.
- Sign into Netflix
- Open the Netflix app.
- Select Sign In to use an existing Netflix account.
- NOTE: If you’re not yet a member, set up your membership at Netflix.com on the web or mobile browser.
- After choosing Sign In, enter your Netflix email and password.
- Your device is now connected to your Netflix account.
Once you’re logged in, you can start watching Netflix on your Apple TV.
