Users were once again having mixed feeling about Apple again shifting the end call button on iOS 17. Recently with the iOS 17 developer’s beta Apple moved the end call button to its previous location. For Apple it is common to play with user interface (UI) design, and this it has altered with the location of the end call button that has grabbed all the attention of the users.
Did Apple transformed the end callbutton on iOS 17?
Initially, developers noticed the design shift during the first few betas of iOS 17. The end call button earlier jumped from its original centre position and got itself into the lower righthand corner of the screen. But, surprising many, the most recent developers’ release of iOS 17 on August 15th, saw the button went right back to its originallower middle on the screen.
It did not just end there, on August 16th Apple again shifted the end call button to the center bottom of the screen. This came to the same placement as it was during the iOS 16 software update. So, finally the end call button can be found in the center bottom of the screen. Hopefully this might be the last time Apple changes the end call button position.
Why did Apple transform the end callbutton on iOS 17?
So many changes with just on button led users to wonder why Apple keeps on changing the end call position. Apple was very subtle with the changes, and did not mention it until it was noticed by the developers. Obviously, users started wondering the reason behind this change. There is however, no explanation what so ever from the side of Apple, so we will be trying to figure out the reason for you.
Let’s see, Apple has released a new feature Contact Posters with iOS 17 update that would allow users to make their own digital calling card through images, colours, and text. It appears on your screen when that particular contact tries to call you, or when you call them. When you call someone with your contact information saved in their address book, your Contact Poster is displayed fully on their screen instead of the previous small thumbnail.
The new photos take up most of the screen during a phone call, so Apple moved the buttons to the bottom.So, to put the contact poster in place and let it appear full and appealing to the users, we believe that the end call button positioned was changes.
If this is the reason for changing the position of the button, then this change is justified. But if Apple was just a bit intrusive about it and changed it just for the sake of changing then I don’t think its worth it. Afterall we were used to again and now we again got to train our muscle memory so that we don’t click some other button.
Previous changes
Ring a bell for the similar change in some other app. Well, a while ago Apple did something with safari app where it changed the position of the search bar from top to the bottom display. It was for those who have big screen display and for their convenience. After a while Apple again brought a change and gave users option to actually choose where they want the search bar to be displayed.
