How to use iPhone text effects

I have been an iPhone user for past 7 years and even after so many years I keep on discovering new things in iPhone. Just a while ago I discovered that we can actually send someone a text with effects. And not just text, we can even send a text where the effects are applied automatically. Its mesmerizing, isn’t it? Who knew iPhone can do such thing. And for those who also weren’t aware of this feature like me, allow me to guide you through every step of how to use these iPhone text effects.

All about iPhone text effect:

iPhone text messages are not just for sending a simple text message, we can make a text more interesting by send special effects, photos, videos etc. Apple doesn’t usually advertise for this stuff, as they are put out there for the users to discover, kinnda like an easter egg. There is a wide range of special effects for you to choose from which can make your message more fun to read; animated text, confetti, balloons, love hearts, fireworks and many more. You can either select the effect you want to apple to your text, or just use a phrase that will automatically activate the effect for you.

NOTE: You will not be able to add effects to every message you send from the Messages app, it works only for iMessages. These are the blue messages that Apple allow you to send to other iPhone users. Green messages are ordinary SMS texts to which no effects can be applied.

How to use iPhone text effects

Adding special effects to iMessages is a straightforward task. Open the Messages app and write your content to manually apply effects to your iMessage. Then long-press on the blue arrow that you normally tap to send a message. This displays your special effect choices.

These are classified into two types: bubble effects and screen effects. Screen effects impact the entire screen, whereas bubble effects just alter the blue text bubble.

How to add a bubble effect on iPhone:

  1. Open Messages and click on the Compose new message button. or you can open an existing conversation.
  2. Enter your message or upload a photo, then tap and hold the Send message button.
  3. To preview bubble effects, tap the grey dot preview message bubble. There are 4 options: Slam, Loud, Gentle, Invisible ink. Choose any one of your choices.
  4. Tap the Send button to send the message.

How to add a full-screen effect on iPhone:

  1. Open Messages and click on the Compose new message button. or you can open an existing conversation.
  2. Enter your message or upload a photo, then tap and hold the Send message button, then press Screen.
  3. To see full-screen effects, swipe to the left. Choose any one of your choice.
  4. Tap the Send button to send the message.

How to use Digital touch icon on iPhone:

You may send doodles, fireballs, hearts, and other objects to your contacts by tapping the Digital Touch icon symbol. Touching the screen with two fingers produces a kiss as seen, while holding the screen with two fingers and sliding down produces an animation of a shattered heart. You can make a fireball by touching and holding the screen with one finger, or a beating heart by doing the same with two fingers.

iMessage screen effect “secret” codewords:

  • Pew Pew – laser light show
  • Happy birthday – balloons
  • Congratulations – confetti
  • Happy New Year – fireworks
  • Happy Chinese New Year – red explosion
  • Selamat – confetti

Until next time, with another topic. Till then, Toodles.
