How to use 5G in iOS 16.1.2?

The first and foremost thing you need before using 5G in iOS 16.1.2 is your SIM card should be 5G enabled. Jio and Airtel have already launched a 5G enabled SIM card. You will also need a 5G cellular plan.

  1. Open the settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the mobile data tab.
  3. Click on the network selection option.
  4. If you are on the Jio network, enable the option Automatic.
  5. If you are on the Airtel network, click on 5G Auto or the 5G on option as per your convenience.

OR

  1. Open the settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the mobile data tab.
  3. Click on Mobile data options.
  4. Tap on voice and data.
  5. Select 5G. (you can choose 5G Auto or 5G On from the network selection option.)

When you’re in an area with 5G service for your carrier and your 5G cellular plan is enabled, you’ll see a 5G icon in your iPhone’s status bar.

What is the difference between 5G Auto and 5G on:

When you are using 5G Auto, your device goes into smart data mode. It will automatically switch to a 4G network when the 5G network fluctuates or gives you less speed. This might help you save battery life a little.

When you are using 5G On, it will always use the 5G network and will not shift to the 4G network automatically even when the 5G network is low. This will also reduce battery life.
