Well, if you own an iPhone then you are in luck, because with iPhone device you can capture full moon and its radiant glow. Of course, there are some settings that you need to do on your iPhone but trust me its going to be worth it.

The struggle is real when you want to capture the full moon but don’t get the same result as you see with your naked eyes. Android have successfully manages to use the AI technology to get a detailed full moon picture in a really good quality. Where as apple have somewhat refrained itself from advertising such feature. However we have found a way to get you the pictures of full moon with iPhone devices. Let me show you how.

Adjusting iPhone camera

To capture the full moon as it is there are 3 main camera settings that you need to do that is zoom, exposure and night mode.

  • Zoom: the range of zoom id from 5x to 15x, make it maximum. Make sure to choose optical zoom to get better image quality
  • Exposure: Adjust the exposure settings to highlight the moon’s details without compromising the overall composition.Tap on it to focus, and then drag down on the yellow focus square to adjust exposure.
  • Night mode: this mode is only available to iPhone 11 and higher model. Use the night mode to bring out the hidden details especially in low light conditions.

How to take pictures of full moon with camera app?

Open the camera app on your iPhone and make sure it is in the photo mode. You can switch to the telephoto lens if you have a dual camera. You can do so by tapping on 1x. Now point you camera towards the sky and tap on the moon to focus. Swipe down on the focus object which is moon to make the photo darker. And now take the picture with self timer.

Tips and tricks:

When taking picture of the moon make sure you use a tripod to hold your phone still. You phone should not move under any circumstances, it should be still. Always capture the picture of the moon with a self timer as that will reduce the chance of camera shake. When using iPhone with dual camera make sure to use the telephoto lens.

How to take pictures of full moon with nightcap camera?

Here again you need to change the settings first. If your iPhone has a dual camera then tap on 1x to switch to telephoto lens. Select the star mode and lower the ISO to the lowest value by swiping your finger down on the left side of the screen. Ex: on iPhone 8 the lowest value is ISO 20.

The focus should be automatically set to FOC 100. Adjust the exposure by swiping up and down until the moon in the camera seems gray. Once you the moon is gray click the photo.
