Digi Yatra is an innovative initiative led by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, aimed at making air travel seamless, hassle-free, and health-risk-free for passengers. It uses facial recognition technology to digitally validate a passenger’s identity, travel documents, and other necessary data, enabling a contactless and paperless journey through the airport.

The Digi Yatra ecosystem is built on a decentralized mobile-based platform where passengers can securely store their identity credentials and travel documents in a digital wallet within the Digi Yatra app. This eliminates the need for physical document verification at multiple checkpoints, reducing queues and waiting times.

Availability of Digi Yatra on iOS

The Digi Yatra app by the Digi Yatra Foundation is currently available on both the Google Play Store for Android devices and the App Store for iOS devices. Passengers can easily download the app on their iPhones or iPads to avail the benefits of this seamless travel experience.

  3. After registration, link your identity credentials using DigiLocker or Offline Aadhaar. If using Aadhaar, upload the file when prompted.
  4. Take a clear selfie as instructed by the app and upload it for facial recognition.
  5. Finally, upload your boarding pass on the Digi Yatra app and share it with the departure airport. Ensure that your name on the boarding pass matches your Aadhaar and flight ticket.

  4. At the security gate, look into the facial recognition camera again for validation, and proceed for security check once the gate opens.
  5. Finally, use Digi Yatra at the boarding gate (where available) for a seamless boarding process.

Digi Yatra Availability at Airports

As of now, Digi Yatra is available at 13 airports across India, including major hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. The government plans to expand the facility to 14 more airports in 2024 and an additional 11 airports by 2025.

Can Foreigners Use Digi Yatra?

Currently, Digi Yatra is available only for passengers with an Aadhaar card, which is a unique identification number issued to Indian residents. However, the government intends to introduce e-passport based enrollment in the future, which will allow foreign citizens to avail the benefits of Digi Yatra as well.

Hence, Digi Yatra is a revolutionary step towards making air travel more convenient, secure, and efficient for passengers. With the Digi Yatra app now available on iOS, iPhone and iPad users can easily register and experience the benefits of this contactless and paperless journey through participating airports across India. As the initiative expands to more airports and opens up to international travelers, Digi Yatra is set to redefine the future of air travel in the country.
