September Launch for iPhone 15

For the past several years, Apple has consistently announced its latest iPhone lineup in September. The iPhone 14 series was revealed on September 7, 2022; the iPhone 13 on September 14, 2021; and the iPhone 12 on September 13, 2020. Considering the pattern of the release dates of previous iPhone models, it is likely that the iPhone 15 will also be released on September 2023, soon after the event. Let’s see the event launch date now.

Looking at Apple’s iPhone events over the last decade shows the company usually holds the event for the launch of its new model keynotes in the first couple weeks of September. The iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 11, iPhone XS, and iPhone 7 were all announced between September 7-15. Even when Apple has broken from tradition, like with the iPhone 12 unveiling in mid-October 2020, but it was due to the pandemic. September dates remain the same.

iPhone 15 is no different. Apple has announced that the next event is on 12th September, Tuesday where the Apple is going to set the stage for the launch of the new iPhone 15 models.

When and Where to Watch Live

Apple’s September 12 special event will be streamed live on Apple.com, YouTube, and in the Apple TV, app starting at 10 AM Pacific / 1 PM Eastern. This event is held at the Steve Jobs Theater on its Apple Park campus. The keynote address where Tim Cook is going to reveal the new iPhone 15 models along with two new Apple watches and updated AirPods Pro. And soon after the launch, we might get our hands on the new iPhone 15 model.

Historically, Apple opens iPhone preorders the Friday immediately following the launch event. For example, the iPhone 14 went up for preorder on September 9, 2022. We can expect a similar Friday preorder date for the iPhone 15 shortly after its 12th September keynote. We can anticipate the iPhone 15 to have a similar 1 or 2-week gap between its preorder and retail launch dates.

4 New iPhone 15 models

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed that Apple will introduce four new iPhone 15 models:

  • iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus: Upgraded versions of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max: Higher-end flagships with major camera upgrades

iPhone 15 features

The standard iPhone 15 pair will likely offer more modest improvements like an A16 chip and 48MP camera. But the Pro iPhones are where the real action is this year. While last year’s iPhone 14 Pro introduced the Dynamic Island cutout, leaked iOS 17 code suggests this feature will now expand to all four new models.

The star feature of the iPhone 15 series will be a periscope telephoto camera on the Pro Max model. This will enable a significantly increased optical zoom range compared to previous iPhones. 5x or even 10x optical zoom could be possible, bringing iPhone cameras closer to premium Android phone territory.

Under the hood, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature Apple’s latest A17 Bionic processor which will deliver faster CPU and GPU performance.

Beyond new iPhones, we can expect to see the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra successor. Refreshed AirPods Pro with a USB-C case could also make an appearance. Apple will confirm release dates for iOS 17, watchOS 10, and other software updates teased back at WWDC 2023.

Until next time, with another topic. Till then, Toodles.
