Since it is released, many users would want to know what features and improvements iOS 16.4 carries. So here we are, bringing you all the updates and what’s new on iOS 16.4 software update.

What are the features and improvements of iOS 16.4?

Apple has released iOS 16.4, the latest version of its mobile operating system, with several new features and improvements. Here are some of the highlights of this update:

  • iOS 16.4 is set to bring a range of new emojis. The update will introduce a “shaking head” emoji, as well as heart options in pink, blue, and gray, as well as new animal emojis such as a donkey, moose, blackbird, and goose. Other new emojis include musical instruments like the flute and maracas and a variety of left and right-facing hand options.
  • One of the other exciting features of iOS 16.4 is the ability for web apps to send push notifications to your iPhone, which means that any website added to your home screen can send you alerts directly. Users can also manage push notifications from web apps from within their Settings, and the update now adds support for adding websites from third-party browsers like Chrome and Firefox to your home screen.
  • The update also includes an upgrade to HomeKit’s architecture, which was initially released in December 2022 as part of iOS 16.2. However, due to bugs affecting users who had upgraded their homes to the new architecture, Apple revoked the upgrade. Now, with iOS 16.4, users can expect a smoother and more efficient home automation experience.
  • Emergency SOS via satellite is also set to receive an upgrade with iOS 16.4, offering better precision when it comes to location tracking. The feature can now tell you exactly when you’ll be in range to use the emergency feature, providing greater peace of mind for those who may find themselves in precarious situations.
  • The Shortcuts app now includes new options to lock the screen and control the Always-on Display for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro users. This gives users greater control over their device’s display settings.
  • The Always-On Display control is being added to Focus modes. This means users will be able to customize their device’s display settings to suit their needs, whether they’re working or relaxing.
  • Changes have been made to the order of Always-On Display settings. This is a minor tweak that should make it easier for users to access the settings they use most frequently.
  • Another potentially exciting feature that may be included in the update is the Apple Card Savings account. According to reports, code in the beta version of iOS 16.4 refers to “routing and account numbers, current balance, interest earned, data management, funds available for withdrawal, and more.”
  • Finally, cellular voice isolation will also be added to iOS 16.4. Currently available for VoIP calls in devices running iOS 15 and macOS Monterey or later, this feature will now be extended to cellular calls as well. By enabling voice isolation on FaceTime, users can expect improved microphone quality by removing background noise, leading to clearer and more natural-sounding conversations.
  • The Podcast app has recently introduced a new feature that allows users to access Podcast Channels directly from the Library section of the app.
  • A new splash screen has been added to the Podcasts app to explain recent changes to the app. This will help users navigate the new features and settings more easily.
  • The Up Next feature on the Podcast app has undergone some changes that will make it easier for users to manage their podcasts. If you use the Podcast app on your CarPlay device, you’ll be happy to know that it now includes both the Up Next and Browse sections. This means you can easily access your favorite podcasts and discover new ones while you’re on the road.
  • Apple Books has recently reintroduced the “curl” animation that was removed with the launch of iOS 16. This animation adds a nice touch of realism to the app, making it feel more like a physical book.
  • The Apple Music profile icon is now available across all tabs in the app. This makes it easier for users to access their profile information and personalize their Apple Music experience.
  • The Settings app on iPhone now includes a new Coverage section that displays AppleCare coverage. This is a helpful addition for users who want to keep track of their warranty and repair options.
  • The iCloud Shared Photo Library now includes Duplicate Image Detection. This feature will help users identify and remove duplicate photos, making it easier to manage their photo library.

These are some of the new features and improvements in iOS 16.4. To update your device to iOS 16.4, go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap Download and Install.
