Is TikTok banned in the UK?

According to recent news surfacing on the internet, banning TikTok from the UK is in talks. The security minister has suggested that TikTok could be fully banned in the UK. “Looking at the various different apps people have on their phones and the implications for them is a hugely important question and I’ve asked the National Cyber Security Centre to look into this.”

The app is being banned on the basis of security and data privacy as it concerns that the data could be used to promote pro-Beijing views or gather users data.

TikTok has denied the rumours about the Chinese government having control and access to the platform. However, the company admitted that some of the staff members in China did gain access to the Europeans users personal data.

“[UK Prime Minister] Rishi Sunak has been urged to ban government officials from using TikTok in line with moves by the EU and US, amid growing cybersecurity fears over China. Officials in Europe and the US have been told to limit the use of the Chinese-owned social video app over concerns that data can be accessed by Beijing.”
