iOS 17 has launched and since then its been in talks about its new features and updates. Personally, I think that among those new features and updates one feature called facetime gestures stands out. With iOS 17 facetime has gotten the ability to add 3D animated effects during the video call. Whether you want to express your emotions, celebrate a special occasion, or just have some fun with your friends and family, FaceTime gestures let you do it in a simple and creative way. Let us dig deeper and get to know more about iOS 17 facetime gestures.

What is iOS 17 facetime gestures?

FaceTime gestures are a new feature in iOS 17 that allows you to see different 3D animations on your video call screen by making gestures with your hands. Put your hands to work not just for Instagram photos but for facetime as well.

For example, you can make a heart with your hands to send hearts.Show thumbs up and you will see a thumbs up gesture on your screen, try even peace sign. These animations appear on your screen and the screens of the other participants, adding some flair and interactivity to your conversations.

What are some examples of FaceTime gestures?

There are many different FaceTime gestures that you can use to spice up your video calls. Here are some examples:

  • Hand heart: Sends hearts flying across the screen.
  • Two thumbs up: Triggers fireworks that explode in the background.
  • Two thumbs down: Causes rain to fall from the sky.
  • One thumb up: Shows a thumb up reaction on the screen.
  • One thumb down: Shows a thumb down reaction on the screen.
  • Two peace signs: Launches confetti that falls from the top of the screen.
  • Two rock on signs: Shoots lasers that bounce around the screen.
  • Balloon: Creates a balloon that floats on the screen. You can pop it by tapping on it.

How to use iOS 17 facetime gestures?

  1. To use FaceTime gestures, you need to have iOS 17 installed on your iPhone and make sure that the other participants also have iOS 17.
  2. Then, you can start a FaceTime video call as usual, by tapping on the FaceTime icon.
  3. When you’re on a FaceTime call, swipe down from the top-right to open the Control Center.
  4. Tap on Video Effects at the top-left corner.
  5. Look for a new section called Reactions.
  6. Perform the desired hand gesture to trigger the corresponding reaction on the screen.

How to leave FaceTime video and audio messages?

Another new feature in iOS 17 is the ability to leave FaceTime video and audio messages if someone cannot pick up your call. This way, you can still communicate with them and let them know what you wanted to say or show them something interesting. You can leave a FaceTime video or audio message if the person doesn’t answer. There will be anoption to leave a message at the bottom of the screen. Record your message by pressing and holding the record button and then tap on send.
