Did you hear about the news about iTunes Movie Trailers app? Apple’s iTunes Movie Trailers app, a classic platform for people who watches movies alot, is about to be discontinued. According to a report by MacRumors, this more-than-a-decade-old app is soon going towards the end of its journey, but fear not, for the trailers will still be available in a new app – the Apple TV app.

Apple’s iTunes Movie Trailers app has been a reliable source for all the users looking to catch a glimpse of upcoming films, watching previews, and stay updated on movie showtimes. But its time for itunes movie trailers app to take a rest and let Apple TV app carry on its legacy, as now the Apple TV app will now be the go-to destination for these movie previews.

“Apple TV app is the new home of iTunes Movie Trailers.”

This was the message that was written on the banner placed on top of the movie trailer app.According to MacRumors, this banner first appeared on August 9th. The Verge discovered a somewhat hidden gem within the Apple TV app’s Store menu – the “Movie and TV Trailers” section. But be prepared to do some scrolling as this icon isn’t immediately visible.

There are many reasons to shut down the iTunes movie trailer app. However, these are only the possible reasons based on the known sources, Apple is still yet to give an official statement about it.

Apple may be consolidating its services and apps to streamline its offerings. By moving movie trailers exclusively to its Apple TV app, Apple can provide a more unified experience for users.

Another reason might be that Apple may be shifting its focus towards its TV app, which offers a broader range of content beyond just movie trailers. This allows Apple to prioritize its resources and enhance the user experience on its TV platform.

The iTunes Movie Trailers app may be considered outdated, as users can already access movie trailers through various other platforms and streaming services. Shutting down the app allows Apple to allocate resources to more relevant and popular services also saved money as well.

If you ask me from the above three reasons, I think that the third one is more valid. Apple keeps upgrading stuff and at one point it has to leave behind the outdated apps, similar to what it does to the software update on older iPhone models. It would save Apple time, effort and money to discontinue the app and shift its content to Apple TV.

If you ask about the date, then let me tell you, Apple has not yet announced that exact date of the shutdown of the iTunes movie trailer app. On August 9th 2023, users got the first hint of the shutdown through a banner which said “ Apple TV app is the new home of iTunes Movie Trailers.” This banner indicated that the services will soon be shutdown and its content will be shifted to Apple TV app. We don’t have the exact dates yet but it might be soon in the upcoming months, or with the launch of the latest iPhone 15. According to some sources, iTunes movie app may be shutdown when the older iphones will lose the support of the latest iOS 17 software update.

Anyway, what are your thoughts about this new transition by Apple. Let us know in the comment section down below.

Until next time, with another topic. Till then, Toodles.
