What is Dock Mode iOS 17?
StandBy mode is the gamechanging docking feature introduced in iOS 17. When your iPhone is charging and positioned horizontally / landscape mode, it changes into a widget powerhouse. Placing your iPhone horizontally on a magsafe, Qi-based wireless or even wired chargers will activate the dock mode, turning the plain old black screen into something interactive.
Picture this: a fullscreen clock, a dynamic calendar, a mesmerizing slideshow of your photos, music controls, activity tracking, weather updates, Live Activities, and much more, all at your fingertips!
In simple words it allows you to change your lock screen to access number of widgets. Trust me this feature is very useful, it could be used as a night stand while its connected to a charging dock or when you want to get information without unlocking your device.
There are a number of available widgets for this mode, including alarm clocks, picture frames, Siri, windows for incoming calls and large notification boxes. In fact there are many third party widgets also available and offers support for the standby mode.
Which widgets support or are displayed in standby mode you may ask. Well, most of the apps still does not provide support however, any app that supports the smallest widget size on your iPhone will be compatible with the standby mode.
Currently there are only couple of widgets available for now but we can soon expect new widgets coming to the party with the upcoming iOS 17 update.

How to Enable standby mode
- Open the setting app on your iPhone.
- Go to the standby mode
- Enable the activation toggle.
How to Customize Dock Mode
Swipe left/right on the StandBy screen to cycle through different panels:
- Widgets panel – Tap and hold to add/remove widgets. Enable Smart Rotate and Suggestions.
- Photo clock – Tap and hold to select albums/categories to display.
- Stylized clock – Swipe through different clock designs.
How to Interact with StandBy mode
- Tap widgets to open apps.
- Swipe down from top to access notifications.
- Double tap screen to lock.
- Raise to wake or tap screen to exit StandBy.
- Disable StandBy mode
- Go back to Settings.
- Go to the StandBy tab.
- Toggle the switch off to disable StandBy mode. It will deactivate when iPhone is removed from charging.
