What is tracking notifications on iPhone?

Apple has been doing its best to give users its privacy and security. Let’s be honest Apple hasn’t failed its customers till now when it comes to privacy, keeping that in mind Apple has been enhancing its anti- stalking safeguards for AirTags and other Find My Network accessories. Apple added this new feature, such as an evident warning when connecting a new AirTag. This notification advises users against using their AirTags to stalk others, emphasizing that their personal information is connected to the monitoring device and that doing so is illegal in numerous countries. Apple has now fulfilled its promise by integrating these enhancements, making it more difficult for creeps to utilize AirTags for surveillance.

You must be thinking why we are talking about AirTags. Is it connected to AirTag notifications or another privacy feature that alerts you if you’re being monitored in any way? Maybe by “find my.” Its purpose is to alert you if someone is tracking your phone, thus it’s a smart setting that you should enable. Well tracking notifications are connected to AirTags and Find My. This feature alerts you by giving you a notification if a device, such as an AirTag, is tracking you. The tracking notification update was made due to the unethical usage of AirTag where AirTag were dropped in someone’s bag and then being tracked through it against that person will. This was used for doing human trafficking. So, in order to prevent this from happening Notification tracking was released.

In addition, Apple is providing Precise Finding for unknown AirTags found nearby. So, if you have a UWB- enabled iPhone, you will be able to pinpoint the exact location of an AirTag. This makes it easy to find them while they’re being stalked, as they’re difficult to identify otherwise. Finally, the Cupertino company has introduced a new option in the Find My app’s Me page that allows users to configure Tracking Notifications as they see fit.

The new tracking notification could prevent some reluctant stalkers. In addition to the above feature, you will now have control over what was formerly called the “Item Safety Alerts” option in Find My. The setting may be accessed via the “Me” tab in Find My or you can go to settings app on your iPhone device.

  1. On your iPhone go to Settings.
  2. Then go to Notifications > Tracking Notifications.
  3. Enable of Disable tracking notifications as per your need.

However, no warning appears when changing anything in Tracking Notifications, like it did when removing the “Item Safety Alerts” setting prior to iOS 15.4. This may change in subsequent releases.

To conclude, this function alerts you if a device, such as an AirTag, is tracking you. I would advice you to enable this option in case of any such emergency.

Until next time, with another topic. Till then, Toodles.
