With the launch of iOS 17, Apple has introduced some exciting new lock screen features that make the iPhone more customizable, convinient and also visually appealing. There are so many iOS 17 lock screen features that it’s hard to choose one for the favourite. However, I have compiled a list of best iOS 17 lock screen features that I think are amazing. Let me show you my favourites, and see whether you approve of these lock screen features or not.
StandBy Mode
One of the major new lock screen features is StandBy mode. This mode activates when your iPhone is plugged into a charger and placed horizontally. Similar to Nightstand mode on the Apple Watch, StandBy turns your idle iPhone into a personal dashboard for at-a-glance information. When in StandBy, you can access widgets, notifications, and other key data without unlocking your device. This creates your lock screen transforms into an interactive display.
Dual Widget Stacks
To take advantage of the expanded lock screen real estate in StandBy, iOS 17 introduces dual widget stacks. This allows you to set up not one but two separate widget pages that you can swipe through horizontally. Each stack can contain multiple widgets, essentially giving you two customizable lock screens. For example, you may have one stack show calendar events, reminders, and fitness data, while the other displays weather, maps, and stock prices. The ability to configure two distinct widget stacks makes StandBy mode far more useful.
Interactive Lock Screen Widgets
One of my favourite lock screen features is the interactive widgets. In previous versions, lock screen widgets were view only, meaning you could see information but not actually interact with it.iOS 17 makes widgets on the lock screen fully interactive for the first time. Rather than just viewing information, you can now tap on a widget to perform actions or launch apps without unlocking your iPhone.
Customizable Lock Screen
With this feature you can now add, remove, and rearrange lock screen widgets to curate the exact experience you want. Whether in StandBy or regular mode, you have full control over which widgets appear and where they are to be positioned. In addition to rearranging widgets, iOS 17 also allows you to create and switch between multiple customized StandBy screens. You can also swipe horizontally to change to specialized StandBy screens.
Third-Party App Support
iOS 17 introduces API support so thirdparty apps can integrate these features. As a result, many popular apps have already updated to offer new lock screen functionality. For instance, sleep tracking apps like Sleep Cycle leverage the new APIs to display sleep data right on your lock screen. Productivity apps like Fantastical allow creating calendar events without unlocking your iPhone. Even games like Pokémon GO integrate lock screen widgets to avoid disrupting gameplay.
Full Interactivity for Home Screen Widgets
Apart from the lock screen, iOS 17 also introduces full interactivity for Home Screen widgets. Just like on the lock screen, you can now tap and interact with widgets directly from the Home Screen. This means you no longer need to launch an app to use key features.
Until next time, with another topic. Till then, Toodles.
