Hey there, Apple fans! I’m sure you’re all excited about the upcoming release of iOS 17, the latest and greatest version of the operating system that powers your iPhones and iPads. In this blog post, I’ll give you a rundown of some of the most anticipated features, the expected release date, and the list of supported devices for iOS 17. Let’s get started!

iOS 17 Release Date

Apple has not announced the official release date for iOS 17 yet, but based on previous years, we can make some guesses. Usually, Apple releases a new version of iOS in September or October, along with new iPhone models. So, we can expect iOS 17 to be available sometime in mid September 2023.

However, if you’re eager to try out iOS 17 before then, you can sign up for the public beta program that will be available soon after the WWDC event which is going to take place in June. The public beta is a test version of iOS 17 that anyone can download and install on their devices. However, keep in mind that the public beta may have bugs and glitches that could affect your device’s performance or battery life. So, make sure you back up your device before installing the public beta.

iOS 17 Features

iOS 17 is expected to bring exciting new features and updates to Apple’s mobile operating system. One of the most highly anticipated features is the support for Apple’s upcoming AR/VR headset. While the headset will have its own App Store, there will likely be some level of integration with the iPhone, even if it’s just limited to Handoff.

In addition to the AR/VR headset support, iOS 17 is also rumored to bring major changes to the Control Center. While there are no specifics on what these changes will entail, the Control Center has not seen any significant updates since iOS 11’s launch in 2017.

CarPlay is also set to receive updates with deeper integration with vehicles and support for multiple displays and widgets. The first vehicles with next-generation CarPlay integration are expected to arrive in late 2023, and it’s likely that support for this feature will be built into iOS 17 or an update for the operating system.

European legislation will require Apple to allow sideloading starting in 2024. Apple is planning to make changes to accommodate this with iOS 17. This will allow customers in Europe to download apps without using the App Store, and developers won’t need to pay Apple’s 15 to 30 percent fees for apps installed through alternate means. However, implementing sideloading support could potentially impact development on iOS 17 due to the engineering resources required.

Along with sideloading support, Apple may also allow thirdparty browsers to use their own engines in iOS 17 by eliminating the WebKit requirement. This move would allow third-party browsers like Chrome and Firefox to be built without using Apple’s open source browser engine. However, it’s not yet clear if this change will be limited to browsers developed for use in Europe or if it will be worldwide.

Finally, iOS 17 will change the way that developer and public beta are installed on iPhone and iPad, requiring an Apple ID linked to either a developer account or a public beta account to install the updates. This change will prevent non-developers from being able to install the iOS 17 beta through a shared developer profile.

iOS 17 Supported Devices

Apple has not confirmed which iPhones will get iOS 17. A recent rumor on Twitter suggests that iOS 17 will drop support for three iPhones and three iPads, including the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.
