iOS 16.4 Battery Test

Test Setup

Before conducting the test, it’s important to note that we set the brightness to 50% as all the phones used were SIM-free and connected to Wi-Fi. Additionally, we should mention that some of the phones have below 80% battery health, which we will show at the end of this article.

Battery Life Test Results

We conducted a bedroom test after updating the devices to iOS 16.4 and let them run for a few hours to observe battery life under normal usage scenarios. Here are our findings:

iPhone SE 2020

The iPhone SE 2020 gave up after almost three hours because we have less than 80% battery health, which is 78%. We don’t recommend using any iPhone below 80% battery health as it affects the battery life significantly. If the battery health were over 80%, we could have gotten around 4 hours of battery life on screen time.

iPhone 11 Tennis Max SE 2020

The iPhone 11 Tennis Max SE 2020 didn’t perform well either, giving us only 5 hours of battery life due to the battery health being only 80%. We don’t recommend using this phone for heavy usage unless the battery health is at least around 85%, as you could get around 6 hours of screen time with that.

iPhone 8 Plus

The iPhone 8 Plus gave up after 5 hours of heavy usage, which isn’t too bad considering it’s an older device. The battery health is above 80%, and we got around 5 hours of screen time, making it a decent device for moderate usage.

iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 also disappointed us, but again, it’s due to low battery health, which is less than 80%. If you’re planning to buy this phone, make sure the battery health is above 84%, as you can get around 6 hours of screen time, which is the same as the iPhone 10s Max.

iPhone XR

The iPhone 10r performed exceptionally well, giving us around 5 and a half hours of battery life with heavy usage. The reason behind this is the 88% battery health, which shows that iOS 16.4 wouldn’t affect your battery life significantly. We recommend updating your iPhone to the latest version to enjoy some new features while getting around the same battery life as before.

Conclusion

We found that iOS 16.4 doesn’t have a significant impact on battery life, and the battery health plays a vital role in determining the device’s battery life. The iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone 11 Max, iPhone SE 2020 had below-average battery life due to low battery health, while the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 11 had decent battery life. The iPhone 10r performed exceptionally well due to high battery health.

If you’re planning to buy a new iPhone, we recommend checking the battery health before purchasing it. If you’re already using an iPhone, it’s a good idea to check your battery health regularly and replace it if it.
