Many iPhone users enable Do Not Disturb (DND) mode on their devices to mute calls, alerts and notifications while sleeping or in meetings. But what happens to your morning alarm when DND is turned on – will it still wake you up on time?
The short answer is yes – the default iPhone alarm clock will still sound even when Do Not Disturb mode is active. This ensures that important alarms are not missed just because the phone is silenced.

How iPhone alarms work with Do Not Disturb:
- The built-in Clock app alarm will always sound when it goes off, regardless of DND being enabled. This applies to all iPhones.
- The physical Ring/Silent switch on the side of the iPhone does not affect alarms. So even if you flip the switch to ‘Silent’, the alarm will still play.
- However, some third-party alarm apps from the App Store may be silenced when DND is turned on. So if you rely on another app as your alarm, test it out first.
- Alarm volume can still be adjusted as usual while in DND mode. Make sure your alarm ringtone volume is set loud enough to wake you.
- If your iPhone alarm is not sounding, first check that the alarm is properly configured with a ringtone and the time set correctly. Also check the alarm volume is turned up.
- As long as your iPhone remains powered on overnight and the alarm is enabled, you can rely on it to alert you even in DND mode. Just ensure it’s set up correctly.
