Can I use Live Photo as wallpaper iPhone On iOS 16?

All the iPhone users know that with iOS 16 you cannot set live wallpaper on your lock screen. Having live lock screen wallpaper was quite popular earlier when it was released with iOS 11, but with iOS 16 Apple quietly removed this feature. You still have the option to set the photos as your background though. Let us see if there is any way that one can still use live photo as wallpaper on iOS 16 devices.

Why did Apple remove live photo as wallpaper on iOS 16?

In iOS 16, Apple introduced Lock Screen customization, which requires you to long-press on the Lock Screen to bring up the customization menu. And this is the same long-press action necessary to make the Live wallpaper move. Thus, to bring the customization feature in Apple had to let go of live photo wallpaper. To compensate it Apple offered dynamic wallpaper that has the ability to move on their own.

Can I use live photo as wallpaper iPhone iOS 16?

Unfortunately, you cannot use live photo as wallpaper on your iOS 16 devices. As mentioned previously Apple had to remove the live photo as wallpaper to make way for the customization options to appear on the screen when doing long press. However, if you have iOS 15 or older version till iOS 11, then you can still use live photo as a wallpaper on your devices.

I know that live photo is not an option anymore but there is on similar thing that you can try, it is called dynamic wallpaper. It is a kind of a substitute to the live photos. Dynamic wallpapers are something that seems live and moves even without you touching the screen. It is an upgrade from live photos where you have to long press the screen to see the photo live.

How to set Dynamic Wallpaper in iOS 16?

  1. Open the settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the wallpaper section.
  3. Click on Add new wallpaper.
  4. Go to weather and astronomy section.
  5. Select any of the wallpaper.
  6. Click on add. You can even customize it in your own way.
  7. Once completed click on Done.

You can even change it from your lock screen by long pressing, and then selecting plus icon.

How to Set a Live Wallpaper on Older Versions of iOS?

  1. Open the settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the wallpaper section.
  3. Click on Add new wallpaper.
  4. Tap in live if you want to choose from one of the iPhone’s pre-existing live wallpapers.
  5. If you want to use your own Live Photo, scroll down and select the album named Live Photos.
  6. Choose the image you want and press Set.

You can choose to set it for your Lock Screen, Home Screen, or both.
