Recently we received iOS 16.4 updates that include several new features and improvements. The update brings 31 new emojis and a HomeKit architecture upgrade to improve device responsiveness across the smart home network and many other features. But there were some issues and bugs with this update. To solve the bugs and issues brought about by iOS 16.4 Apple has released iOS 16.4.1. Let us look at iOS 16.4.1 new features and what improvements it has brought with it.

IOS 16.4.1 is a minor update and contains the basic improvements. It is a bug fix update that addresses issues related to emoji and Siri. It also includes security fixes for two actively exploited vulnerabilities. However, there are no new features in iOS 16.4.1.

According to MacRumors, the important bugs fixed in iOS 16.4.1 include fixing an issue where the pushing hand’s emoji did not show variations in skin tone. One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of 21 new emojis, including animals, hand gestures, and objects. These emojis did not appear on the emoji keyboard after updating to iOS 16.4. iOS 16.4.1 solves this issue, and users can now use these new emojis.

Another essential feature of the update is the addition of notifications for web apps to the Home Screen. This new feature allows users to receive notifications from their favorite websites, just like they do from installed apps. This feature will undoubtedly enhance the user experience and productivity by keeping them updated on important events.

One of the significant changes in this update is Voice Isolation for cellular calls. This feature prioritizes the user’s voice and blocks out any ambient noise around them, making the call clearer and more focused. This is especially useful when making calls from noisy or crowded places, such as a busy street or a noisy restaurant.

The update also introduces expanded support for detecting duplicate photos and videos in an iCloud Shared Photo Library, with the Duplicate album feature in Photos. This feature lets users keep their photo library organized and save storage space on their devices.

Moreover, the update includes VoiceOver support for maps in the Weather app, making it more accessible for visually impaired users. The update also adds an accessibility setting that automatically dims video when flashes of light or strobe effects are detected.

This update has also fixed some issues, such as the failure of Ask to Buy requests from children to appear on the parent’s device and the unresponsiveness of Matter-compatible thermostats when paired with Apple Home.

Lastly, the update includes Crash Detection optimizations for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models. This feature can detect when the device has been involved in a severe impact and automatically calls emergency services to send assistance.

Additionally, an issue where Siri did not respond in some situations has been resolved. On the other hand, reports that iOS 16.4.1 patches some serious security vulnerabilities. One dealt with a bug affecting the IOSurfaceAccelerator, which could have led an attacker to execute any code or run any command on the target device without the user’s knowledge. The second bug fix patches a flaw in Apple’s WebKit browser engine that would allow an attacker to execute commands on a target’s phone. Apple is aware of reports stating that the two vulnerabilities were actively exploited.

In conclusion, the latest Apple update comes with several significant improvements and bug fixes that enhance the user experience and make the device more accessible.

Until next time, with another topic. Till then, Toodles.
