Even if we try to ignore the part where having no phone is not a big deal, it still is! because of the increase in technology and everything slowly becoming online. Not everyone can afford buying a new phone. As a result, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) created the Lifeline program, which aims to provide low-income families with access to phone and communications services. During the Covid-19 outbreak, the FCC implemented another temporary aid program called Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB), which was designed to help homes who couldn’t afford internet service. Given the current requirement for a smartphone in everyday life, the FCC is offering free government phones.

Required Documents for Lifeline / EBB Eligibility:
If a Lifeline provider in your region distributes free government iPhones, you must show proof of Lifeline eligibility to receive one. The following papers may be used to confirm your Lifeline eligibility:
- Documents to prove your identity. (Name, address, DOB)
- Documents to show your annual income.
- Documents that show your program participation.
- Because only those above the age of 18 or participating minors are eligible for Lifeline, all emancipated minors must submit proof of emancipation, such as a certificate or a court document.
