In the last few months, there have been lots of rumours about iOS 16 features, and Apple put the seal of confirmation last month at WWDC 2022 by launching the iOS 16 beta.
After iOS 13, I am really excited about iOS 16 so far, and there are many reasons behind this. And these reasons are amazing features that we will be getting. Some such features I have noticed in the Contacts app.
Apple has improved contact management quite a bit. Nonetheless, one feature that we need is still missing.
What New Features Has iOS 16 Brought to Contacts?
Double Tap on Contacts Icon
Earlier, when you had to change the settings of what contact numbers should be visible in the Contacts list, you needed to do that within the Settings app.
However, things changed recently when Apple allowed users to check the different “Groups” of contacts in the top-left corner. Now Apple has simplified this process and made it quick.
In iOS 16, you only have to tap twice on the Contacts icon and you will see different groups of contacts that are visible on the app. For instance, iCloud contacts, Gmail, SIM, iPhone, and others.
You can select or deselect these options according to your preferences.
That’s simple, right?
This is one of the most useful features that has been added to the Contacts app with iOS 16.
Many times, we have the same phone number saved in different groups. For instance, I have saved my mother’s number in iCloud and Gmail. So, whenever she calls me, it says “Mommy Jio or Mommy” on the screen.
However, now you will see an option “Duplicates Found” at the top of the Contacts app if there are duplicate contact numbers saved under different names or groups.
You need to select the “Duplicates Found” option and you will see all the duplicate contacts. Here, you can select one-by-one contacts to merge, or you can directly tap the “Merge” option at the bottom to apply the settings to all duplicate contacts.
If you wish to keep the duplicate contacts as they are, you can select the “Ignore” option and you will not see the “Duplicate Found” option.
What Did Apple Miss?
These above-mentioned features are good and helpful for contact management. Apple has tried to make things better, but there is one thing that is still missing – the ability to select multiple contacts to delete them directly on your iPhone.
You can connect your iPhone to a PC or Mac to delete multiple contacts, but it is not possible directly from your device.
This is really frustrating for users who are not fond of using computers to make changes to their phones very often.
We hope Apple will add this feature in upcoming updates.
