The final iOS update tends to bring some amazing new features and improvements to iPhone devices nearly every year. With iOS 17 recently launched, talks about the next big update iOS 18 has already begun. Well, it’s a bit early to get to know any information about iOS 18, whether its features, or release date, or compatible devices. However, we can make a quick guess for iOS 18 release date based on the previous launch and release history of iOS updates.
IOS 18 release date
Looking at history of the officialiOS software update release dates, we can make an quick guess as to when iOS 18 release date will be and when it will be available to the public. Historically, all major new iOS versions follow a similar pattern for launch timeline. Apple announces the upcoming iOS features in June at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). After that there is a spree of beta updates of the operating system and working with developers to optimize apps, Apple eventually launches the official iOS update in September alongside new iPhone models.
Based on this pattern, iOS 18 will likely be launched in June 2024 at Apple’s WWDC event. Apple will release developer and public betas throughout the summer, allowing app creators to test iOS 18 compatibility. Then in September 2024, Apple will host a media event to announce its latest iPhone lineup. iOS 18 will debut alongside these new phones, around the third week of September 2024.
Looking back, iOS 11 arrived on September 19, 2017; iOS 12 launched September 17, 2018; iOS 13 became available September 19, 2019; iOS 14 landed September 16, 2020; and iOS 15 rolled out September 20, 2021, iOS 16 was up by 12th September 2022 and finally iOS 17 which released just now on 17th September 2023.
Given Apple’s preference for Tuesday releases in mid-to-late September, the most probable target is September 17, 2024 for iOS 18’s public launch. This fits Apple’s typical iOS rollout schedule, aligning with historic dates and the anticipated iPhone 15 introduction. Barring any delays or changes, users can expect to download iOS 18 sometime around the third Tuesday of September 2024.
IOS 18 compatible devices
As following the pattern Apple leaves all the 5 years and older devices out of the new update. Seeing that iPhone X series including iPhone XS, iPhone XR and iPhone XS Max will be older than 5 years we can say that Apple will likely pull the plug on these for iOS 18 update. iPhone 11 might be safe this time but not for long though.
