With iOS 15, Apple had introduced a new feature called Live Text. It uses on-device intelligence to recognize and copy text within a shot or while using the camera. Because of Live Text, you can even use Spotlight to search for text in Photos. This function enables users to use a camera to recognize and copy text from any videos. It is Apple’s native OCR technology, and it was earlier only restricted to screenshots, pictures, camera capture, and other similar tasks. This functionality will be available only on iPhones equipped with an A12 processor or above iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 2020 and later, 5th generation of iPad Mini, iPad Air 2019 or later, iPad 2020.

Live Text is currently only available to developers; this feature is only available in the iOS 16 beta and won’t be available generally till official release of iOS 16.

But this feature when released with iOS 15 was only the start. The capability to reach its full potential is still under development, and with iOS 16, you will be able to copy text from a video as well. It may be quite useful for copying vast quantities of text from a video. You don’t have to take screenshots of different frames of the movie to get the text. Furthermore, with Apple giving the feature to developers, you should be able to pull text off a video from popular third-party apps soon. The Live Text feature can be used over Map to copy the address.
