Even Android users can connect to AirPods and use it. Does AirPods work with Android devices?
Fortunately, AirPods are not limited to iOS devices. And since AirPods are connected to other devices through Bluetooth, they can be connected to any device which supports Bluetooth, even if it is Android. So yes! AirPods does work with Android devices through Bluetooth. Although there might be some limitations related to its features. It might limit the features of AirPods such as you cannot see the battery level of AirPods on an Android device or you cannot use the double tap feature of AirPods when connected to Android or not being able to use Siri as these features can only be accessed when connected to the iOS device.
How to connect AirPods to Android for the first time
Follow the steps given below if you want to connect your AirPods with an Android device for the first time. If you are a first timeuser then you need to follow steps 1,2 and 3. If you have AirPods or AirPods Pro then this method is for you.
- Make sure that AirPods are in their case and that the top lid is kept open.
- Now press and hold the setup button which is located at the back of the charging case.
- You will see a white blinking light on the case, this means that your AirPods are ready to pair with any Bluetooth device.
- Go to the settings app on your Android device.
- Select Connections and go to the Bluetooth option. (Instead of connection you may have the option of network or wireless, it will depend on which Android model you are using.)
- Enable Bluetooth toggle.
- Now, in the available devices list locate your AirPods and click on it.
- Confirm your actions by clicking on the pair option from the pop up.
- Play music to check if your AirPods are working fine with your Android device.
If you have AirPods Max then you need to follow a different method.
- Go to the settings app on your Android device.
- Select Connections and go to the Bluetooth option.
- Enable Bluetooth toggle.
- Now take AirPods Max out of the case and press the noise control button. You will see a white blinking light at the bottom of the right earcup.
- Now, in the available devices list locate your AirPods and click on it.
- Confirm your actions by clicking on the pair option from the pop up.
Can you have access to the voice command feature with AirPods on Android devices?
AirPods are compatible with the Siri feature on Apple devices, and since Android does not have Siri, it is possible to use google assistant instead of Siri. But there is a drawback. There is no direct feature where AirPods can work with the google assistant feature, but you can download a third party application named as Assistant Trigger on your Android device that will allow you to use a google voice assistant.
